"So, if Christmas is still Christmas,
without the Christian, what does that mean? It means the exact thing that it
would for Christians asking the same questions regarding a Muslin holy day or
an Indian guru. Our own way is always the right way, at least it appears to be.
As an Omnist (belief that all religions have merit) Christmas holds as
much meaning without Jesus as it ever did with him. He is part of the mythos of
Christmas but in the same sense as Santa Claus, ethereal versus a tangible
reality. I find the same joy and wonder in a snowstorm set against a Christmas
tree as in any manger or bowing wise men or that shining star. The term, “peace
on earth” might have a chance if we allow our fellow passengers the right to
believe what they wish, in turn allowing what we believe to also hold merit. In
a sense, Jesus has become an archetype rather than dictator. You do not have to
buy into the myth to embrace the message. If something speaks of joy and mercy
and manifests great love, it doesn’t really matter the messenger."
